Aims
The Club has a small expedition fund from which it can make modest awards to encourage young people to explore the Arctic. The size and number of awards made is determined by the relevance of the application and the funds currently held. Awards may be given to either individuals or small groups. See list of recent awards.
Criteria
Awards favour small independent expeditions being undertaken by people under 30 years of age with strong Scottish connections. Expeditions must be to the Arctic.
Applications and process
Applicants should complete the Application Form (downloadable PDF document, 20KB), or apply to the Secretary, Chris Ravey (raveycr@aol.com) 48 Westerlea Drive, Bridge of Allan, Stirling,
FK9 4DQ: tel 01786 832976.
Groups that are also applying to other funding bodies may choose to submit two copies of their fuller application if it covers all the requirements of SAC’s form.
Two applications must be received by the Secretary by 31 January of the year in which the expedition is taking place.
These will be considered by the President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer.
Decisions will be communicated within two weeks. Successful applicants will then receive the award by cheque, or other form of payment as may be agreed.
In circumstances where an award may be neither possible nor appropriate, the Club will endeavour to provide advice and other support.
What happens after an award is made?
Recipients are expected to submit a report of the expedition by October. This should be at least 500 words but the length will be dependent on the nature of the expedition and the relevance of information to the future and use by other potential expeditions.
Reports are added to the Scottish Arctic Club Library.
An invitation will be given to the recipient to be a guest at the Annual Conference at which a 10-minute slide presentation would be made.
